Hurricane Rita
Everyone in Southwest Louisiana knows about hurricanes and now everyone knows about the destruction that a hurricane can inflict on our area. On September 23, 2005, Hurricane Rita came ashore in Southwest Louisiana packing winds well over 120 Mph and a 20 foot high storm surge. Locally, most of our homes were damaged and some of our boats and docks. Over time, everything will be repaired and will return to normal but no one around here will ever forget the name Rita.
Armin's Boat Review (After Rita)
Leaving my essentially intact home during the first few days after Rita hit, revealed devastation to most boats everywhere. Some were luckier than others. Bowtie Marina and Olmsted's Shipyard received major damage. Many areas were still flooded on September 25 and 26, 2005 and some pictures were taken a week later.
Anchorage Repair
Repairs are underway at the Anchorage. Hurricane Rita dealt us a major blow but everyone has been working together to bring the Anchorage back to mint condition. Many of the repairs are complete but there are still many more to go. A new dock and A/C units are next on the list. Take a look at the pictures in this section and let us know if you can lend a helping hand!
Progress at our Anchorage after Rita
Some of the pictures were taken in early October 2005. The Anchorage was flooded by six feet of water, causing the dock to be lifted up and moved 20 feet to the east. Floating benches destroyed much of the screened porch and few shingles remained on the roof. After a lot of weekend clean-up parties major progress was made by Easter 2006. A new blue metal roof was installed, the porch was rescreened, doors replaced, the bathrooms reworked, new Air conditioners installed at higher elevations and the dock was replaced by with stronger better pilings.
